“Gushi FM” (故事FM) is a storytelling podcast that specializes in authentic first-person stories that deal with a wide range of themes. Created in 2017 by Kou Aizhe, who hosts the podcast every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, “Gushi FM” is incubated by “Elephant Magazine” (大象公会), a “self-media,” or zimeiti (自媒体), started in 2013 by veteran journalist Huang Zhangjin (黄章晋), the former executive editor of Phoenix Weekly. “Gushi FM” is one of mainland China’s most popular podcasts, and has listed among Apple’s “Podcasts of the Year” for three years running. In a 2019 profile with Kou, the New York Times referred to “Gushi FM” as a podcast that “gives voice to the real.”
