Chengdu Daily, the official Party newspaper of top city officials, reported earlier this month that a local schoolteacher had instituted a new classroom procedure requiring all classmates to bow in unison before the student “showing the greatest progress”. The students were required to bow their bodies 90 degrees and stay in that position for 10 seconds, the newspaper reported.
